An introduction...
Hello there!
I'll be using this space to share updates on my music projects, the gear I'm experimenting with, and the artists who inspire me. If things start to feel a bit self-indulgent, consider this my early apology! You'll also find the occasional press release here.

Who Am I?
If you've stumbled across this blog, welcome! My name is Ste, and I write and record electronic music under the alias Myths and Monsters. I’m based in Preston, Lancashire.
I perform live whenever I can. The furthest north I've played is Glasgow, and the furthest south is Liverpool so I'm not exactly jet-setting around the globe. However I love the process of making music and connecting with others.
My approach to music is a bit unconventional. My debut album, Project Echo, used a Gameboy as a sequencer to power synths. My follow-up, Cecaelia, was a tribute to '70s and '80s film soundtracks and relied heavily on analog synths for an authentic sound.
These days, my weapon of choice is the M8 Tracker (look one up, they are fascinating).
I've a new mini-album (or EP - what's the difference) out called Beyond. This is a collaboration with fellow Preston illustrator VVzyk. Musically, it draws equal influence from dance acts like Orbital as it does electronic pioneers like Tangerine Dream. Equally, there are some influences from proggy horror composers Fabio Frizzi and Goblin on this one, in melodies, a strange time signature and mellotron samples if nothing else.
Neil Mason of Moonbuilding Weekly said there are: "...bright melodies across this three tracker, and it comes mixed in with this really intriquing epic prog sort of vibe." (Read that summary here).
Beyond also features a track with with singer Typhaine Patron, who I've been collaborating with a lot since summer 2023. You may well see us playing live together, and she’ll be featured on many upcoming tracks. In fact I do feel the next release will most likely be all the songs we've been performing. I feel incredibly fortunate to be working with Typhaine. If you have a moment, please check out her folk/acoustic due, Midnight Café.
Here's a live video of us, which we filmed in the Continental in Preston. This is We Must Resist from Beyond.
While some of my music is available on streaming platforms, all of it is on Bandcamp. It's just a better place for musicians. And I have things like tapes and CDs too.

That’s it for the intro. More updates soon!
